Big City Girl
Hey loves!
Where have I been in the past weeks? I know that I normally blog on a weekly basis and so I honestly don't really know why I stopped it. I guess that a reason for it is that my environment changed (moving from Germany to a boarding school in Hong Kong). In the past weeks, I've basically lived life to the fullest, I tried to enjoy every moment of this new experience. Every day at LPC is a new adventure - this may sound cliché, but it's true. Whenever you go to bed, you will be able to tell yourself that you had some nice conversations, dozens of opportunities to do something, that you learned something new and that you were inspired at least once on this day.
Being here is amazing on the one hand, but it also takes a lot of energy. I guess everyone could use some more sleep, but we're all fine. I believe that I will get homesick at some point, but for now, I'm still discovering new aspects of life at LPC, new things about my roomies and the other First- and Secondyears.
And now, let's get to my past weeks. I haven't told you guys about them yet and I honestly don't know what were all the things that happened in the past days. Before school started, I had to make my subject selection. It was quite hard to decide which six subjects I'm going to study for the next two years. In case someone is interested: I chose Biology, History, English, Maths, Global Politics and French (the three subjects I named are my higher level courses). So far, I really like the subjects (ok, Bio is a lot to study but it's cool) and the lessons are really cool. But the lessons are also super packed. The teachers go through topics very fast, but I like it. In the past, I was annoyed by spending time on topics we had discussed in class many times before and so I am very happy to not waste my time with this anymore. But it is also hard work to go through stuff in such a short amount of time.
But let's stop talking about lessons in school and talk about cooler things... Like roomies! The people I live with are amazing and I absolutely love staying with them. They are super kind and whenever I'm with them, it's a good time. People at LPC in general are very diverse, interesting, open-minded and kind. But I also miss my friends at home. It's hard to be away from your family, friends and simply everyone. But everyday at LPC is worth it.
On the 21st of September, it was UWC Day and also Peace Day. On this day, all of us met up in the courtyard, we talked about Peace, the meaning of peace and how to achieve peace. And we also discussed whether peace is really possible. After talking about peace, we tried visualizing it and everyone got the chance to contribute a little paper to a big poster saying "Peace". When reading this, it might not sound like something special but it was. It was a great experience to hear about people's view on peace, their experiences with peace and their definition of it. I was honestly not expecting a lot from that day, but it turned out to be something more than just inspiring. It was an experience in which everyone had fun, everyone had some deep thoughts and we all got bounded a little bit more. I really loved that day and that's why I added some pictures of it for you guys to see what UWC Day looks like at LPC!
And now, last but not least: The city! Being in Hong Kong is amazing, I love the city and its constant rush. Because although Hong Kong is always fast and about efficiency, it has its very own charm. Hong Kong Street Food for example. You can try so many cool stuff on the streets and - from the point of view of a German - it's very cheap. You can also discover different styles, products and views in Hong Kong. One part of Hong Kong that fascinated me is Mong Kok. The part of the city is very crowded, but you can discover a lot of street food, cute stores and Chinese culture there. It's amazing. If you ever get the chance to go to Hong Kong, visit Mong Kok.
So yeah, so far I'm really enjoying life here and I wish the best to my loved ones at home!
Lots of Love,
Elena
