Big dreams
Hey guys!
It's been a crazy week and I couldn't write a post because I was so excited. I've spent the past weekend in Kassel, a pretty city in Germany. That doesn't sound that exciting, does it? But something amazing took place there: The interviews for the United World Colleges (UWC).
Months ago, I started writing my application for the United World Colleges. I've found out about them by reading a newspaper and I was simply fascinated by their ideas. For everyone who's never heard of them: The UWCs are schools around the globe who offer students from all over the world the possibility to study with people from the whole globe for two years and the get their International Baccalaureate their. The schools focus on the environment and the understanding between different cultures. I just wanted to go there and when I got the invitation for the interviews, I couldn't stop smiling.
I was pretty scared of the interviews, but all in all, it was a hell of fun. I've met some amazing people there and although we all want to get into a UWC, there wasn't the feeling of being in competition with them. It was more like a camp where you go in summer and where you make new friends. It was also exhausting, because you try to give the perfect answers and you put some pressure on yourself, but all in all, it made fun.
The pressure you put on yourself when being there cant compete with the pressure you put on yourself after coming back home from the interviews. I knew that we would get the answers on Thursday and I couldn't stop thinking about it. When I got the email and it said that they'd like to offer me a place - well, I still don't know how to describe my feeling at that point. All I can say is that I've been more than just happy. They'd like to recommend me as a student to the Li Po Chun United World College in Hongkong.
I guess you can imagine the shocked reaction of my mom when I called her and told her that it's possible that I'm moving to Hongkong in half a year. Before they can suggest me to the College, they want to know if I need a scholarship and if yes, how much money I'll need from them. I can only hope that it's going to work out and it's definitely a big dream, but I've been working very hard for it and let's just hope.
It's also a little bit scary to think about moving that far away, but I believe in the sentence "If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough" by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. I can only hope that my dream will come true. At this point I also want to thank my two closest friends who supported me from the beginning on. They encouraged me to go there and to chase my dream. They even prepared a realy cute letter for me and some food when I went to the interviews. At this point: Thank you - you two are amazing.
